The night thief by Joy EllisThe Night Thief by Joy Ellis is book 8 in the Jackman and Evans police series and as always this is another formidable thriller by the author。There are two cases and each suspect has serious mental health issues or do they? Both cases are complex and require skilled and patient police and psychiatric help。 The storyline and characters are as always interesting and well thought out。Highly recommended

Thank you to #Netgalley and the publisher for my advance copy of #TheNightThief by #JoyEllisI can’t put my finger on why but I didn’t enjoy this book as much as all the previous books。 I have read everyone of Joy Ellis books and loved them but this one just didn’t flow the same。 Jackman and Evans are two of my favourite characters but the story line concerning Jackmans wife overshadows what was happening in the police case。 Just not the usual standard we’ve all come to love。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shamefully, this eighth book in series is my first read – but it won’t be the last!Jackman & Evans’ latest case is a strange one; they seem to have someone who enters houses in the dead of night when the residents are fast asleep – and do no more than steal a photograph。 While that alone is more annoying than anything else, it all changes when an elderly resident whose home has been entered falls to her death。 Now they must get to the bottom of this mystery before more innocents lose their lives Shamefully, this eighth book in series is my first read – but it won’t be the last!Jackman & Evans’ latest case is a strange one; they seem to have someone who enters houses in the dead of night when the residents are fast asleep – and do no more than steal a photograph。 While that alone is more annoying than anything else, it all changes when an elderly resident whose home has been entered falls to her death。 Now they must get to the bottom of this mystery before more innocents lose their lives。I have read books by Joy Ellis before and always find them to be excellent, but this is the first time I’ve encountered Jackman & Evans – and what a great team they are! Both exciting and thrilling, this is one which kept me completely caught up in it all the way through。 I’ve never been one for sleeping with my window open (my hearing is far too sharp – I’d never get any shut-eye) but I can imagine that, for many readers, they will now be making sure their windows are firmly closed and locked before climbing into bed at night。 There is something really creepy about the thought of an intruder in your home at any time but to do so when you are asleep really adds to the horror。 As always, this author knows exactly how to ramp up the fear and anticipation of her audience and I love the fact that each series consists of stand-alone reads with no spoilers to prevent me going back and reading the earlier novels。 An absolutely cracking thriller, highly recommended and definitely deserving of all five sparkling stars! 。。。more

Another ‘page turner’ from Joy Ellis - in inverted commas because obviously I chose the audiobook narrated by Richard Armitage (flawlessly, as per usual)。 The story gets a little overly soppy at times, but most of the time I found myself wishing I had a longer drive home so I could listen for longer!

No surprise in this book: if you liked the former ones, you should like this one too。 It's nice to see the main characters happy and quite serene, let's hope it stays that way for a while。 No surprise in this book: if you liked the former ones, you should like this one too。 It's nice to see the main characters happy and quite serene, let's hope it stays that way for a while。 。。。more

I am a huge fan of Joy’s work and have been for a while now。 I haven’t quite caught up everything that she has written but I am getting there。 I especially love the series featuring Detective Inspector Rowan Jackman and Detective Sergeant Marie Evans。 I have read and loved the other books in the series and so when I heard that Joy was due to release another book in the series I knew that I had to read the latest book as soon as I could。 Well ladies and gents, the wait is over because the eight b I am a huge fan of Joy’s work and have been for a while now。 I haven’t quite caught up everything that she has written but I am getting there。 I especially love the series featuring Detective Inspector Rowan Jackman and Detective Sergeant Marie Evans。 I have read and loved the other books in the series and so when I heard that Joy was due to release another book in the series I knew that I had to read the latest book as soon as I could。 Well ladies and gents, the wait is over because the eight book in the series is called ‘The Night Thief’ and is due for release in e-book forma ton 18th November 2021 although it is already available in paperback。 I absolutely loved ‘The Night Thief’ but more about that in a bit。The fact that I saw Joy Ellis’s name on a new book cover was enough to attract my attention and the story within the covers of the book sealed the deal as it were。 To say that reading ‘The Night Thief’ became addictive is a huge understatement。 I made the fatal mistake of starting to read the book shortly before I went to bed。 Let’s just say that bedtime was delayed and I had a distinct ‘lack of sleep’ hangover the following morning but it was so worth it! If I wasn’t reading the book, I was thinking about the book。 If I had to put the book down then I would immediately look forward to being able to pick the book up again。 The story stayed with me for a long time after I had finished reading it。 I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the story。 All too quickly I reached the end of ‘The Night Thief’ and I had say goodbye to Detectives Jackman and Evans。‘The Night Thief’ is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Joy Ellis。 Her books are always superbly written。 She certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draws them into what proves to be one hell of a story。 For me, the story hit the ground and maintained a fairly fast and scary pace throughout。 I love the way in which Joy describes her characters。 She describes them so vividly and realistically that they seem just as real as you and I。 Reading ‘The Night Thief’ felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way。 Just when you thought that you could take a minute to gather your thoughts then off the action would go again。 I love the way in which Joy makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and in the middle of all the action。In short, I absolutely loved reading ‘The Night Thief’ and I would recommend it to other readers。 I will certainly be reading more of Joy’s work in the future。 The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*。 。。。more

I found the premise of this book is genuinely creepy。 A man sneaking into houses to take pictures of children is the stuff of nightmares。It’s a good job Jackman & Evans are on the case。 As with all Joy’s books, the team work and relationships between the members of the police team are well described。 Another superb police procedural from Joy Ellis。 Inventive, twisty and addictive, this book has it all。 Joy Ellis never lets her readers down。

The Night Thief (Jackman & Evans #8) by Joy Ellis has a similar creepy character as in The Midnight Lock--invading houses where women are sleeping and taking only photographs of their sons。 At first, it seems the culprit might be Ratty, who is known for midnight visits, but the photographs are certainly atypical as Ratty has never stolen anything。 So who is making the visits and stealing photographs of young boys。。。and why?Rowan Jackman's partner, psychologist Laura Archer, has a patient who has The Night Thief (Jackman & Evans #8) by Joy Ellis has a similar creepy character as in The Midnight Lock--invading houses where women are sleeping and taking only photographs of their sons。 At first, it seems the culprit might be Ratty, who is known for midnight visits, but the photographs are certainly atypical as Ratty has never stolen anything。 So who is making the visits and stealing photographs of young boys。。。and why?Rowan Jackman's partner, psychologist Laura Archer, has a patient who has been referred to her for his sleepwalking episodes。 Something about him bothers Laura and she reaches out to Sam Page for help with the man's somnambulism。 One reason I like Joy Ellis' books is that both the Rowan Jackman & Marie Evans and the Nikki Galena & Joe Easter books have well-developed members of their teams。 Over the course of the series, the minor characters have become so familiar, and I always look forward to the way they work together。 It isn't necessary to have read the previous books in the series since the mysteries are completed in each book, but the pleasure of having watched the secondary characters come to life over the series is a large part of my enjoyment in the books。 NetGalley/Joffe Books。 Nov。 18, 2021。 Print length: 370 pages。 。。。more
